#IAMHEREIAMHIR

“Living against the binary is not a crime. Living fem is not a crime. Peeing is not a crime. Trans IS NOT a crime. We just need to pee! Visibility matters!” – Devin in their new post “Trans Day of Visibility: Trans is Not a Crime” on TransparentGender.com

Something that constantly weighs heavy on my mind is the lack of representation (and at times erasure) of Gender Non-Conforming people and Trans/Gender Non-Conforming People of Color.  People constantly talk about the “trans tipping point” but fail to speak about how the trans narrative that is constantly being addressed is through a privileged (white supremacist, binary, capitalist, ableist and beyond) lens.  Inspired by Trans Day of Visibility today I have started “I Am Here, I Am Hir”.

“#IAmHereIAmHere is a campaign motivated by the lack of visibility of Gender-Non-Conforming individuals as well as Trans/Gender-Non-Conforming People of Color within and outside of the LGBTQ+ community. The aim is to elevate the presence and narratives of people who identify as such and to say: “We Are Here”.

WHAT IS TRANS DAY OF VISIBILITY?

Trans Day of Visibility is a day for people to show their support for the Trans community as well as a day for people who identify as Trans/Gender-Non-Conforming to let their light shine and bring awareness to the accomplishments of other great Trans/GNC people!  This year the theme for Trans Day of Visibility is #MoreThanVisibility.

Why #MoreThanVisibility as share from the Trans Student Educational Resources (TSER):

“This recognizes that while visibility is important, we must take direct action against transphobia around the world. Visibility is not enough alone to bring transgender liberation. Some people experience violence due to their visibility and some others don’t want to be visible. However, we can use visibility as a vital tool for transgender justice.
